A Wave of Generosity for Little Michi
In the Gotha district, a heartwarming fundraising campaign has begun, which could change the life of little Michael Liam from Finsterbergen. The boy, affectionately known as »Michi« was born with a rare genetic defect that severely affects his eyelids. This condition, Blepharophimosis-Ptosis-Epicanthus-Inversus Syndrome (BPES), leads to a narrowing of the eyelid openings, significantly impairing his vision.
Michael's family has not given up hope for a better future for their son and is planning a special surgery with a renowned eye specialist in Malaga, Spain. However, this hope comes at a price: 25,000 euros are needed to fund the treatment. The response to the fundraising appeal has been overwhelming – within just a few weeks, over 10,000 euros have already been raised.
»I am so overwhelmed and grateful for every single donation«, says Hanna Lauterberg, Michael's mother. »Every euro helps us get closer to our goal and allows Michi to receive the treatment he so desperately needs.«
But the Lauterberg family is thinking even further: If the amount raised exceeds the target, they do not intend to keep the excess funds. Instead, they plan to support another fundraising campaign in the Gotha district. This campaign was launched for Katharina Adolph, a 36-year-old woman suffering from the severe disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Her story deeply moved the family, and they want to use part of the donated funds to help her in this difficult time as well.
But that's not all. The community's generosity is also reflected in the numerous events being organized in support of Michael Liam. For instance, the Finsterbergen Volunteer Fire Department will be collecting donations during their fire festival at the end of August, and Marcel Freiberg's Riding and Therapy Stable is also planning an event for the little boy.
CENTURY Martial Arts Europe has also joined the cause, supporting the 2024 charity tournament, a karate youth tournament for children, with a donation of 300 euros. The participation fees of the young karatekas – children aged 3 to 12 years – will be entirely donated to Michael Liam. »We want to help and contribute to giving Michi the chance at a better life«, said Markus Liedtke, the CEO of CENTURY Martial Arts Europe.
This fundraising campaign impressively demonstrates the big hearts of the people in the Gotha district. Together, we can make a significant impact and give little Michi the future he deserves.
